The Start of the Journey: From Farm to Market
The first step in the supply chain is sourcing produce from farms. The growers pick their produce and can have it to their agents in the markets within 4 hours depending on their location Our most important job is maintaining relationships with the agents so that we know which growers are sending, if they’re experiencing any quality issues due to weather etc, and getting the best price so we can pass that on to you. Being a small wholesale business allows us to buy from growers who might not do large volume, but have excellent quality. Having worked with larger secondary wholesalers within the Markets, we know that bigger isn’t better with regards to price or quality. Quite often the bigger wholesalers have to pay ‘overs’ (a higer price) to secure the volume, and if they decide to cut the agent out and go direct to the grower, they are then stuck with any quality issues, and have to commit to a minimum quantity to keep receiving from that grower – and guess who will receive that poor quality produce snuck into their load……

We check everything that comes in the door to make sure it looks good (excluding our staff), it’s fresh, the right size and spec, and it tastes good too.
